GiGi All Purpose Honee Wax

Hello all! As you already know, I have been real busy with exams, especially since I am studying for my finals. It has been hectic and I do not have much time to get myself all nice and pampered outside the home. So this past week, I headed over to Sally Beauty to pick up a few things and invest in some Microwavable wax. I thought about purchasing a warmer, but just didn’t feel like I needed a warmer that bad. The wax I bought was Gigi All Purpose Honee Wax Microwave Formula $9.99. It comes in a tub with a handle on the side, so you don’t burn yourself. I like that the wax is used in combination with Muslim strips, since I never had luck with the strip less ones. My biggest problem with the wax is the sticky wax on the skin afterwards, but that’s what the Wax Off is for. Baby and jojoba oil remove the wax residue as well.

Basically, I have tried a few waxing products and none have worked well for me and this one is doing great. I think one of the tricks to getting this wax to work, is to not heat it too much. I find that the thinner the wax is, the less hair comes off. Smaller sections at a time seems to work best, but in the end I still have to pluck a few hairs. I am pretty much new at waxing by myself, so sorry if I sound waxing…uninformative. I am not posting to teach how to wax, but mention the wax that’s working for me.

Besides the wax and Muslim strips, I also picked up GiGi Wax Off (mentioned above) and GiGi Anesthetic Numbing Spray. The Wax Off works quite nice and has a nice coconut scent, but the spray didn’t do any numbing. I’ll be taking the spray back since it is a small spray for $9.99 and don’t work. I think I need some soothing/calming lotion for after waxing.

My question to you is: Have you tried home waxing and if so what wax has worked for you? I intend to keep searching for a better one, but for now this one works out. Have you tried this wax before?

Here’s a little tip: To keep the cap from sticking to the rim of the tub. Oil up the tubs rim before sealing it up. It removes the wax from the tubs rim and keeps it lubricated, so there won’t be a problem opening it up on your next waxing session. (This works for me and I hope it works for you.)

Waxing can be real painful and irritating for some individuals, expecially those who have sensitive skin. I hear sugar based waxes are much gentler than the regular formulas, but have not tried them out yet. This post is based on my experience with the product mentioned above. Your experience may be or not be the same.

Never wax. Sounds painful. I am thinking to get a epilator.

    Hi Qingzi,
I have never tried an epilator, maybe I’ll give one a shot. I just lean towards waxing, since I normally get waxed by professionals and that’s what I’m used too. I know pursebuzz recently mentioned one she liked.

Hello, I also wax my arm hair and the kind I use is Sally Hansen All Over Body Wax Hair Remover Kit. It includes the strips, the wooden stick, and the after wax oil. What I find works for me is that it DOES have to be HOT and liquidy but not to where I burn myself. I do find that thin layer removes my hair better but that’s because before I apply the wax, I ALWAYS protect my skin to prevent it from peeling and getting burn marks. What I do is I lather my arms with a little bit of cooking Olive Oil, and this still allows the wax to grab on and when I peel which is why it has to be hot. I find this helps because it does not burn my skin off. Also, when I apply the strips onto the wax I make sure to rub on top of the strip to allow the hair to grab on well. Hope this helps.

    Hi Kay,
Thanks for the tips. I’ll try using some oil before waxing the areas. I heard some people use baby powder, but I am not sure how that would work.

Oh, I would advise you AGAINST baby powder. From personal experience, all it did was rip my skin off so I could have done something wrong if this seems to work for others. Yet, I found that the olive oil works for me as it protects my skin and somehow still allows the wax to grab onto the hair. Best of luck and hope you find what works for you. :)

Hi Kay, I tried using the olive oil on my legs today, but the wax would not stick to the hairs and pulled only like 3 hairs out. My skin did feel much nicer with the olive oil and the wax spread easier, but it just wont stick to the hairs.
