Coastal Scents Neutral Palette Review

Hey guys! I got my CS Neutral Palette in the mail yesterday. I must say that the eye shadows are really pretty. You get different levels of neutrals, along with a few whitish ones, a peach and black eye shadow. My favorite by far is the peach eyeshadow. It is really pretty! :) I had a hard time trying to get the true color of the eye shadows to show on camera. The closest I could get it to the true color was to swatch them on paper.

What I have to say about the eye shadows:

The eye shadows are very soft and have very good color pay off. They are also buildable, so if you want more color, just apply some more. I also noticed that they are not dusty. So, the powder does not go everywhere, but  it does leave a little pile of powder gathered together, where the brush was pressed. (I like to press my brush in) Good thing it comes with a plastic cover to keep it in place.

Some of the eye shadows are matte, but most have some shimmer. When I was swatching the eye shadows (with clean fingers) I found that some of the glitter specs did not mix well into the eyeshadow. It was a bit messy, especially for that dark purple one on the first row. So, I thought OH NO! However, once I applied it to my eyes (with a brush) it was a different story. The glitter specs stayed in place quite well, and there was not  much fallout.

The glitter specs in this eye shadows are very small, but show up in a few more than others. If you are looking to get this palette for Bridal Looks - keep in mind that going with matte eye shadows are your best bet. (Reflective eye shadows are not camera lights best friend.) However, if you decide to use a minimal amount of shimmer, some of the shimmery eye shadows are quite usable. (I probably would only use slight shimmer in the highlight.) Just personal preference, but then again it depends on what your client wants.

I did not want to wet the eye shadows since they are soft. So, I only tried it on the dark purple/plum one on the first row, because it has the most glitter. That one worked well wet and had a nice vibrant plum color.
Now for the staying power!

I applied eyeshadow to both of my eyes at 11:00 am this morning. One eye had an eye base and the other eye did not. As expected, the one with an eye base looked a little bit darker than the one without it. Surprisingly, both sides looked practically similar by the time I removed my makeup. I took off my eyeshadow around 5:00 pm. The eye shadows definitely have staying power.

Here is a couple pics 6 hrs after I applied the eye shadow. Both pics are of the one without any base. As you can see they are looking a slight greasy in the center, but most of the color is still on.

Since the eye shadows are real soft..I do not think this would be a good traveling palette. A couple people who ordered this item had a shattered eyeshadow in the palette. (And the palettes are padded well.) Mine arrived in good shape. :) Just something to keep in mind if you are a makeup artist and haul your stuff everywhere.

I really do like the palette. You get 28 eye shadows for $19.95, which is a good deal. Especially, if you are a neutral kind of girl. :) I like color eye shadows more than neutral, but really liked having some neutral options.CSNeutralPalette

WOW!!!! What a great in depth review of the CS Neutral Palette. I was searching for accurate and in depth info on this palette since I just ordered it (hoping its a fabulous purchase since Ive never ordered from them before..I am a pure MAC head…owning soooo many brights but really starting to appreciate the value of neutrals as well). I love how you swatched the es on white paper too…the best idea Ive seen yet! Anyway..Thank You.

Thanks Nicole! The eye shadows are definitely not MAC quality, but they last long with a primer and are buildable. It has good neutral selections, but in the end it’s all about preference. Hope they work out for you.
