Protecting Your Skin Right From Your Kitchen

The other day I was watching a segment on Oprah, where her guest Dr. Oz, discussed how certain types of food can protect the skin from ultraviolet rays (UV). He conducted a study that involved increasing lycopene - which is found in tomatoes or tomato paste. What they did was perform a UV skin test on a woman and then measure how much damage was caused to her skin. After the test was performed, the woman had to start consuming 4 tablespoons of tomato paste everyday for 90 days. Once the 90 days were up, they went ahead and performed another UV test on her skin. The test showed that she had 30% less damage when compared to the previous UV test. According to Dr. Oz, lycopene is a type of antioxidant that can help fight off harmful rays. Therefore, it helps protect you from sun rays, sunburn and wrinkles.
